From humble beginnings in the early 1980s, Comfort Sleep Bedding has grown into one of Australia’s most innovative and versatile suppliers of beds to our retail and commercial clients.
Founded in 1981 by Sam and Lucy Sapuppo, Comfort Sleep began as a husband and wife business based in the Melbourne suburb of Thomastown. Sam would go out and deal with clients during the day, then he and Lucy would make the mattresses in the evenings at their 300m2 shopfront.
Hard work saw the business grow fast, with Sam and Lucy leasing the property next door to expand production. In 1987, six years after starting out, Sam and Lucy bought their first block of land in Wood Street, Thomastown, and built a purpose-built bedding factory.
The business continued to grow, taking on more employees and winning contracts with major retail clients in Sydney and Melbourne, which spelled even more rapid growth for what had started out as a small family business. Eventually the business grew too big for the existing factory and moved to its current location in Holt Parade, Thomastown.
In the early 2000s Sam and Lucy's sons Michael and David finished school and joined the business. Michael focused on operations while David’s interest lay in sales and marketing. The business grew to more than 50 full time employees and at the time of writing produces more than 250 products per day for clients around the world including hotel chains, including hotel accommodation and major bedding retailers.
In 2015 comfort sleep are commencing an adjacent extension to their existing factory to keep up with growth.
